Forensic Science, B.S., Crime Scene Investigation Concentration to Criminology and Criminal Justice, M.A. Accelerated Program

Saint Louis University's Forensic Science B.S., Crime Scene Investigation concentration students are a natural fit for this accelerated B.S. to the Criminology and Criminal Justice, M.A. accelerated program. Students interested in on-the-scene forensics work (crime scene investigation, fingerprint processing, investigation), typically in police agencies and government agencies, can obtain an advanced degree with only one additional year of schooling.

The program would also allow SLU students in forensic science to gain a better understanding of the criminal justice process. In addition, students gain more opportunities for professional advancement in their future career vs. individuals with a bachelor's degree.

Students accepted into the program will be allowed to take four classes in the M.A. program (12 credits —two in the fall and two in the spring) during their senior year which allows them to complete the M.A. in just one additional year of study. These CCJ classes taken at the 5000 or 6000 level are taken once the student achieves senior status and would count towards the CCJ electives required for the bachelor's crime scene investigation concentration.

For additional information, see the catalog entries for the following SLU programs:

Forensic Science, B.S. Crime Scene Investigation Concentration

Criminology and Criminal Justice, M.A.

Admission Requirements

Students who have a minimum overall GPA of 3.00 in the Forensic Science Major classes, are eligible to apply to the accelerated master's program after obtaining 75 credits (ie. junior status and typically during the spring semester of their third year of a traditional four year degree plan).
Upon provisional and conditional acceptance to the M.A. program, students select a concentration in the M.A. and begin coursework.

Program Requirements

Students accepted into the program will be allowed to take four classes in the M.A. CCJ program (12 credits--2 in the fall and 2 in the spring) during their senior year which allows them to complete the M.A. in just one additional year of study. These CCJ classes taken at the 5000 or 6000 level are taken once the student achieves senior status and would count towards the CCJ electives required for the bachelor's crime scene investigation concentration (see course requirements).

Roadmaps are recommended semester-by-semester plans of study for programs and assume full-time enrollment unless otherwise noted.

Courses and milestones designated as critical (marked with !) must be completed in the semester listed to ensure a timely graduation. Transfer credit may change the roadmap.

This roadmap should not be used in the place of regular academic advising appointments. All students are encouraged to meet with their advisor/mentor each semester. Requirements, course availability and sequencing are subject to change.
