Confluence: Interdisciplinary Humanities, Microcredential
The Confluence: Interdisciplinary Humanities microcredential aims to give Saint Louis University students a foundational education in integrating knowledge both across the humanities and between the humanities and the social and biological sciences.
The program does this through the reading of what the Teagle Foundation calls "transformative texts," more commonly known as "great books." These are primary source works that have had—or have the potential to have—a transformative effect on readers outside of their particular historical time period or geographic area. Through their engagement with these sprawling, dynamic texts, students will develop active reading skills and critical, reflective thinking that they can transfer to future professional and personal contexts, as well as their coursework throughout the university. This integrative education model is in keeping with the holistic approach of SLU’s mission as a Jesuit university oriented toward cultivating the whole person.
Admission Requirements
For current, active Saint Louis University students wishing to declare a microcredential, complete the Update for Student Curriculum Record form.

Continuation Standards
If a student scores below a C for their final grade in one microcredential course they will be placed on program probation for the microcredential. Students will have one semester of probation to either obtain a C or better grade in the specific course or other qualifying Confluence microcredential course. Failure to meet the continuation standard within the probation period will result in dismissal from the microcredential.
Roadmaps are recommended semester-by-semester plans of study for programs and assume full-time enrollment unless otherwise noted.
Courses and milestones designated as critical (marked with !) must be completed in the semester listed to ensure a timely graduation. Transfer credit may change the roadmap.
This roadmap should not be used in the place of regular academic advising appointments. All students are encouraged to meet with their advisor/mentor each semester. Requirements, course availability and sequencing are subject to change.
