Eligibility Requirements

To study abroad, students must:

  • Have completed two semesters of full-time study at Saint Louis University, or one semester if a transfer student.

  • Have a minimum Saint Louis University cumulative GPA of 2.50 at the time of departure.

  • Be in good standing with Saint Louis University’s Office of Student Responsibility and Community Standards.

  • Specific study abroad locations may have additional eligibility requirements.  Please visit the Study Abroad website for details.

Course Pre-Approval

Students should:

  • Confer with their academic advisor and faculty mentor to discuss the impact of a semester abroad on their academic plan.

  • Check the list of SLU equivalencies of study abroad courses on the Office of the University Registrar’s website.

  • Submit course syllabi to goabroad@slu.edu for courses that do not currently have equivalencies.

Enrollment Requirements

Students must maintain a full-time course load (equivalent of 12 U.S. credits) while studying abroad.

Dropping below the equivalent of 12 U.S. credits may affect your financial aid eligibility. Contact Student Financial Services for more information.

Students must submit the Study Abroad Enrollment Verification form (Form #27) and have their host institution coordinator send the form to the Office of International Services by the following deadlines:

  • Fall Semester: October 1

  • Spring Semester:  March 1

  • Summer Semester: July 1

Failure to submit the Form 27 by the deadline will result in the student being withdrawn from Saint Louis University for the corresponding semester.

Students must complete a revised version of Form 27 immediately if there are any changes to their registration.

Grading Policies

Grades from approved study abroad location courses will appear on the SLU transcript and be calculated in the Saint Louis University cumulative GPA. Saint Louis University uses the World Education Services’ international grade conversion guide, and students should understand the credit and grading systems of the host institution before departure.
